Virat Kohli Wiki Biography: Virat Kohli is an Indian Cricketer and Captain of current Indian team in all formats. Kohli is one of the greatest player of all time. He is the only batsman who once has an average of 50 and above in all three formats of international cricket. He was born in Delhi, India.

Virat Kohli was passionate about cricket since his childhood. He joined West Delhi Cricket Academy in 1998. In 2002 Kohli was selected in Delhi’s Under-15 team. He was also the part of Delhi’s Under-17 team. Then in 2006, Kohli was selected in India’s Under-19 team for England tour. In the same year in 2006, Kohli made his first-class debut for Delhi in Ranji Trophy. Kohli has also captained India’s Under-19 team in 2008 ICC Under-19 World Cup. Virat made his national debut in 2008 against Sri Lanka.

Virat Kohli started playing IPL for Royal Challengers Bangalore team in the inaugural season in 2008. He was bought under youth contract by RCB for $30,000. Kohli is the part of RCB Squad since the inaugural season. In 2011 he was the only player retained by RCB and was also made the Vice-Captain of the team. Kohli was named as captain of the RCB team in 2013.

Career

Virat Kohli joined a professional cricket club in 1998. He joined West Delhi Cricket Academy in 1998 and Kohli was the first to join that academy. He started playing cricket under the guidance of his coach Rajkumar Sharma. He also used to play cricket for Sumeet Dogra at the same time.

In October 2002 he played for Delhi Under-15 team in 2002-03 Polly Umrigar Trophy. In season 2003-04 Kohli captained his team in Polly Umrigar Trophy. Then in 2004, he made his Under-17 debut in 2003-04 Vijay Merchant Trophy for Delhi. Kohli was the highest run scorer in this tournament.

Kohli’s List-A debut came in February 2006 for Delhi against Services but he didn’t bat in that match. Same year Kohli was selected in India’s Under-19 squad for ODI and Test series against England Under-19. Kohli scored at an average fo 105 in ODIs and 49 in Tests in those series against England Under-19 team.

In 2006 Kohli made his first class debut for Delhi against Tamilnadu. In a match against Karnataka, Kohli batted even after getting to know about his father’s demise and scored 90 runs. Kohli was made the captain of India’s Under-19 team for 2008 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Indian team won that tournament.

Kohli’s national debut in senior national team came in 2008. He made his India debut against Sri Lanka on 18th August 2008 in ODI series. He was also the part of Indian team in 2009 ICC Champions Trophy. Then in 2010 Kohli made his T20 debut. He played his first T20 international match against Zimbabwe on 12th June 2010.

Kohli scored runs in a home series against New Zealand in 2010 which gave him the opportunity to be the part of Indian team regularly. He was also the part of India squad for 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup. Kohli made his Test debut against West Indies on 20th June 2011 but couldn’t score much runs in that Test series. He was made the Vice-Captain of Indian ODI Squad in 2012 Asia Cup.

Kohli was the part of Indian team for 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. India was champion in that tournament. Kohli was the Vice-Captain of 2014 ICC World Twenty20. India toured Australia in 2014 and Dhoni announced his retirement from Test cricket in that Test series ahead of Fourth test and Kohli was made the full time Captain of Indian Test Team in that series. Kohli was also the part of 2015 ICC World Cup where India lost to Australia in Semifinal.

Kohli also played 2016 ICC World Twenty20 and was given the Man of The Tournament Award. It was his second consecutive Man of The Tournament Award in T20 World Cup. In 2017 ICC Champions Trophy, Kohli captained Indian team and team reached the finals. Kohli also captained Indian team in 2019 ICC World Cup and the team reached Semifinals. India lost to New Zealand in Semifinals.

Currently Virat Kohli has a total of 70 International centuries till August 2020. He has 27 Test and 43 ODI centuries.

IPL Career

Virat Kohli was signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2008 for a sum of $30,000. Kohli was unable to make an impact in that season scoring only 165 runs in 12 matches. Then he improved his stats in 2009 IPL season by scoring 246 runs in that season. In the 2010 IPL season he scored 307 runs at a strike rate of 144.81. In 2011, RCB retained only Kohli and named him as Vice captain of RCB team.

In 2013 he was named as full-time captain of the RCB team after Daniel Vettori took retirement. In the 2016 IPL season, Kohli broke the record of highest runs in a single tournament by scoring 973 in the 2016 tournament. He scored 4 centuries that season. RCB Franchise retained Kohli for a sum of $117 Million. Kohli currently is a part of the RCB squad and he is playing for RCB since 2008. In IPL he has played with players like AB de Villiers, Yuzvendra Chahal, Dale Styne, Moin Ali, Umesh Yadav, Mohmad Siraj, etc.
