Taylor Lautner is a renowned and worldwide famous American model and actor who is well known for his role as “Jacob” in the film series The Twilight Saga. He began his career playing in small roles in comedy series like “My Wife and Kids” (2004), “The Bernie Mac Show” (2003). Later he gave his voice to a character in television series such as Danny Phantom and What’s New, Scooby-Doo. He also starred in The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3D and in the film Cheaper by the Dozen 2 (2005).

Taylor was born on 11 February 1992 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States of America to a well-settled American family of a pilot and a software engineer and was raised as Roman Catholic. He comes from “Dutch, French, and German” ancestry and has distant “American ancestry” through his mother. Taylor spent his childhood in Hudsonville, Michigan, a small town near Grand Rapids. He has also shared that he was bullied in his school days a he was an actor. 

At the age of six, Taylor started taking his karate classes and attended the National Karate Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky, where he met with an American-Thai stuntman Michael Chaturantabut, the founder of Xtreme Martial Arts. Michael invited him to a camp held at the University of California, Los Angeles where he trained with Michael for several years and earned his black belt by the age of eight along with various Junior World Championships titles. Taylor also appeared in an ISKA karate event that was broadcast on ESPN in 2003. 

Taylor completed his schooling at Valencia High School in Santa Clarita, California until his sophomore year. Michael who was Taylor’s karate teacher suggested he should continue acting and for a few years, he flew from Michigan to Los Angeles for auditions and returned back for school sometimes. In 2009, Taylor was nominated for Male Breakthrough Performance in MTV Movie Awards, which was won by co-star Robert Pattinson. Chris Weitz the director of the film series wanted to recast the role of Jacob for Twilight’s sequel, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, due to the physical changes that occur in the novel as Jacob starts falling in love with Bella and is also a shapeshifter. In order to keep his role for the film, Taylor starts working extensively with heavyweights and gains around 13kg of muscle.

Seeing his hard work and dedication for the role Weitz and Summit entertainment decides that Taylor would continue with the role of Jacob. With such immense transformation, Taylor’s co-star Kristen said “he is an entirely different person physically” and co-star Robert said, “I saw him and thought ‘Jesus, I’m going to get fired.” The movie did exceptionally well and outpaced the first film and it became the biggest midnight opening movie in the United States and Canada and also the biggest single-day opening.
