Takashi Murakami Biography / Wiki
“ We want to see the newest things. That is because we want to see the future. Even if it’s momentarily, it is the moment in which, even if we don’t completely understand what we have glimpsed, we are nonetheless touched by it. This is what we have come to call Art” – Takashi Murakami
Born on February 1, 1962, Takashi is a contemporary Japanese artist. From early on, he was a fan of anime( Hand-drawn and computer animations)and Manga(Comics and graphics originating from Japan). He attended “Tokyo University Of Arts” to acquire the drafting skills necessary to become an animator, but eventually majored in Nihonga(Japanese paintings from about 1900 onwards respectively). Murakami earned a BA, MFA, and Ph.D. from Tokyo University of Arts. In 1996 he established the Hiropan Factory, a studio/ workshop that in subsequent years grew into an art production and artist management company now known as Kaikai Kiki Co, Ltd.
Murakami was dissatisfied with the state of contemporary arts in Japan believing and comparing that it should be deep with appreciation with western style trends. His famous pieces of artistic creation lies in the infamous My Lonesome Cowboy(1998) and Hiropon(1997). The sculpture is of a naked anime character with blonde spiky hair with a spiral trail of semen circling him.
