Early life
Sherfane Rutherford started playing cricket at a young age in his hometown of Upper Demerara, Guyana. He played for the Demerara Cricket Club and also represented Guyana in various age-group tournaments.
Rutherford’s talent was recognized by the selectors, and he was included in the Guyana U-19 squad for the 2016 Regional U-19 competition. He had a good tournament, scoring 372 runs in six matches at an average of 53.14 and a strike rate of 89.17. He was the leading run-scorer of the tournament and helped Guyana win the title.
