Shekhar Gupta started his career in 1977 as a journalist in Indian Express. He worked in Indian Express for six years and then resigned to join India Today. Shekhar again joined Indian Express in 1996 as Editor-in-chief and CEO. He resigned from Indian Express in 2014. Then in August 2017, he launched his own news website and digital media news company ThePrint. He is currently the Editor-in-chief of ThePrint.

Shekhar Gupta did his schooling from Saraswati Shishu Mandir in Palwal. He studied in this school for three years and then went to Punjab for further studies.
He was interested in Arts rather then Science in his school life.
Shekhar completed his Bachelor Degree in Journalism from Panjab University.
He started his career as a Journalist in Indian Express in 1977 and worked there for 6 six years and finally quitting from his post.
Then Shekhar joined India Today in 1983 and covered various topics like Operation Bluestar, the Nellie Massacre in Assam and the Gulf in 1991.
He won the 1985 Inlaks Award for Young Journalist of the year.
Then in 1996, Shekhar again joined Indian Express as Editor-in-chief and CEO. He worked with Indian Express for almost 18 years and finally resigned in 2014.

Shekhar was also awarded Padma Bhushan by the UPA Government in 2009 for his contribution to Journalism.

He has also worked with NDTV and hosted the show “Walk The Talk With Shekhar Gupta”.

Shekhar launched a book in 2017. The book contains 25 of the most impactful political interviews from his shows “Walk The Talk”.

Shekhar Gupta launched his own digital media company ThePrint in August 2017. He is currently the Editor-in-chief of ThePrint.
