Career

Ronny began his career as a standup comedian in 2009 after completing his graduation. He gained initial fame as a standup comedian in 2012 because of his hilarious show titled “Problems”. His breakthrough came in 2013, after performing with popular comedian Trevor Noah in a comedy festival in Melbourne, Australia. In 2015, he was selected on Trevor’s show “The Daily Show” as a correspondent.

With increasing popularity as a comedian, Ronny created popular shows including It’s a Date, Have You Been Paying Attention?, This is Littleton, and many more. In 2016, he co-wrote and acted in a comedy sitcom titled “Ronny Chieng: International Student” which was commercially successful. Presently, he appears on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah and Scissor Seven comedy shows.

Besides this, Ronny made his movie debut in 2018 as Edison Cheng with a comedy movie titled “Crazy Rich Asians”. The movie was critically acclaimed for its comedy. Recently, he appeared in a Marvel movie titled “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” as Jon Jon. In 2021, he was also seen in popular movies such as Long Story Short, Godzilla vs. Kong, and Trust.

In 2012, Ronny received the Best Newcomer Award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. In 2013, he was nominated for the Best of the Fest Award at the Sydney Comedy Festival. In 2014, Ronny received the Directors’ Choice Award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Ronny won a Best of the Fest Award at Sydney Comedy Festival in 2014. In the same year, he received a nomination in ARIA Music Awards for his act titled “The Ron Way”. In 2015, he received a nomination in the same award for Chieng Reaction.
