In 2011, Parag joined Twitter as a software engineer and was mainly responsible for the company’s technical strategy and overseeing machine learning and AI across the consumer, revenue, and science teams.

Due to his impeccable work in the company, in 2017 Parag was promoted and became the chief technology officer. In 2019, he was made in charge of Project Bluesky, an initiative to develop a decentralized social network protocol by former CEO Jack Dorsey.

While giving an interview to MIT Technology Review in 2020 and discussing balancing the protection of free speech as a core value and the endeavor to combat false information, Parag commented “Our role is not to be bound by the First Amendment, but our role is to serve a healthy public conversation … focus less on thinking about free speech, but thinking about how the times have changed”.

On 29 November 2021, Monday, Parag became the CEO of Twitter, a microblogging social media site after its long-serving CEO and co-founder Jack Dorsey resign from the company.
