And when he was 13 years old moved to the USA to pursue a career in the acting industry. Then at the age of 15, he shifted to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he used to serve as a pizza-delivery guy. After some time, he joined the stand-up comedy with the suggestion of a fellow co-worker.

Michael Blackson Stand-up Comedy Journey

Prior to joining the acting industry, Blackson works as a stand-up comedian. As a comedian, he first performed at the old ‘Comedy Works’ in Philadelphia. Soon after, he began performing in Philadelphia-based clubs and bars and earned initial fame. In this way, he initiated participating in many comedy competitions and increased his popularity. 

He first competed at the ‘1993 Schlitz Malt Liquor Comedy Tour’ in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. Since then, he appeared in other comedy competition shows like ‘Laffapolooza Comedy Festival’ in Atlanta, ‘Bay Area Black Comedy Competition’ in Oakland, etc. Additionally, he performed in the ‘1996 Urban Comedy Festival’ in New York City and earned a name as ‘The African King of Comedy’. 

Interestingly, while performing at a Los Angeles comedy club Blackson was noticed by actor and director Ice Cube who invited him for an audition and afterward, signed him for his debut role. This is how Blackson’s comedy career took him in the entertainment industry. Although, Blackson announced that he will never quit comedy.

In 2000, Blackson made his acting debut by playing a small role as an angry African man in the comedy film ‘’Next Friday’’ which was a remake of the 1995 film ‘’Friday’’ starring Ice Cube, Mike Epps, John Witherspoon, Don “DC” Curry, Tommy “Tiny” Lister Jr, and others. His role in the film was liked and praised by audiences and helped him to establish himself in the industry. 

In 2005, he released a sketch-comedy CD named ‘Modasucka: Welcome to America.’ In the same year, he appeared in the TV series ‘’30 Rock’’ and ‘’The Bad Boys of Comedy’’ and starred in a commercial for Chappelle’s Show on Comedy Central. He signed his second film ‘’Repos’’ in 2007.
