In early October 2020, Jacoby competed for Seward in a Seward-Homer Dual Meet in Homer, Alaska where she won her two individual events including the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:03.95. 

U.S. Open National Championships in San Antonio, Texas Jacoby swam a personal record of 1:07.57 in the 100-meter breaststroke in 2020. In January 2021, Jacoby broke the minute mark in her 100-yard breaststroke swimming a time of 59.87, at the 2021 NLSC Winter Time Trial. Jacoby lowered her 100-yard breaststroke time to 59.35 and her 200-yard breaststroke to 2:08.61 at the end of March 2021. 

TYR Pro Swim Series – Mission Viejo in 2021

Jacoby took second place in the finals of the 100-meter long course breaststroke at the TYR Pro Swim Series swim meet in Mission Viejo, California with a personal record time of 1:06.38 in April 2021. Jacoby’s swim was the sixth-fastest time in the world for women in the event so far in the 2021 year. Jacoby competed in seven individual events at the 2021 Alaska Senior Championship from April 30 to May 2, 2021, including swimming a 1:16.28 in the long course 100-meter backstroke by following the TYR Pro Swim Series – Mission Viejo meet.

US Olympic Trials build-up in 2020

Jacoby was one of two swimmers from Alaska in 2020  to qualify for the 2020 USA Swimming Olympic Trials. Jacoby was listed as a top-three pick by SwimSwam in the women’s 100-meter breaststroke for the 2020 Olympic Trials held in June 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic (the top 2 finishers qualify for the USA Olympic Team) on May 24, 2021. Jacoby was called a “Dark Horse Threat” to the women’s 200-meter breaststroke event for the upcoming US Olympic Trials by SwimSwam in part due to her 15th place seedtime and in part, due to her stroke’s similarity to the stroke of Leisel Jones on June 10, 2021. 

USA Swimming Olympic Trials in 2020

On June 14, 2021, Jacoby competed in the prelims of the 100-meter breaststroke, swimming a 1:06.40 and coming in as the 4th fastest swim for all heats in the morning on day two of the Olympic Trials. Jacoby qualified for her first US Olympic Team in the 100-meter breaststroke and lowered her National Age Group record from the day before when she was 17 years old. 

Summer Olympics in 2020

She was one of ten teenage female swimmers to make the team. Jacoby was one of eleven teenage swimmers for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan on the USA Olympic Swimming Team. She swam at a time of 1:04.95 in the final and won the gold medal, which gold medal was the first gold medal won by an American woman in swimming at the 2020 Olympics. Post-Olympic Games decompression 

Jacoby was welcomed home on August 5,  returning to Seward, Alaska following the Olympic Games, with a parade, and took a few weeks off from swimming to rest. Jacoby was named to the 2021–2022 USA Swimming National Team in the 100-meter breaststroke based on her performances earlier in 2021, in September, and it was the first time she made the US National Team, which is open to all ages.

Jacoby competed in the 2021 FINA Swimming World Cup stop in Berlin, Germany on October 1. Jacoby won the silver medal in a personal best time of 30.04 seconds, finishing less than half a second after Anastasia Gorbenko of Israel in her third event in Berlin, the 50-meter breaststroke. On the second day in Budapest, Jacoby swam a 1:05.40 in the 100-meter breaststroke final, capturing the silver medal in the event. 

Awards season

The beginning of the 2021 awards season overlapped a bit with Jacoby competing at the 2021 FINA Swimming World Cup, receiving her first nomination in late September, prior to the commencing of the World Cup competition, for the James E. Sullivan Award. She was one of four swimmers who represented the United States to receive three Golden Goggle Award nominations at the 2020 Summer Olympics, with the other three being Katie Ledecky, Caeleb Dressel, and Bobby Finke.

Jacoby balanced the recognition out with some last high school competition, winning state titles in the 100-yard breaststroke, 59.66 seconds, and 200-yard individual medley, 2:05.70, after receiving her awards nominations, for her high school senior, final, year of scholastic swimming for Seward High School at the 2021 Alaska State Swim and Dive Championship in early November.

Jacoby won the Golden Goggle Awards for “Breakout Performer of the Year” and “Female Race of the Year” on December 7. 

World Short Course Championships on 2021

Jacoby entered to compete in the 50-meter breaststroke and 100-meter breaststroke individual events at the 2021 World Short Course Championships in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates starting on December 16. In the final of the 4×50 meter medley relay on day two, Jacoby split a 29.62 for the breaststroke leg of the relay, helping finals relay teammates Rhyan White, Claire Curzan, and Abbey Weitzeil achieve a 1:43.61 and win the silver medal.

Jacoby placed third in the 100-meter breaststroke at the 2022 Pro Swim Series in Westmont, Illinois with a time of 1:06.87 at the age of one week less turning 18 years. In the 200 meter breaststroke, she placed third in the final with a 2:28.22.
