Lovlina Borgohain is an Indian athlete, boxer, and Olympic medalist. She is popular for winning a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and became the only third boxer to win a medal at the Olympic games. She is also known for winning a gold medal in the 1st India Open International Boxing Tournament and a bronze medal at the 2018 Women’s World Boxing Championships.
Lovlina was born and brought up in Golaghat, Assam, India along with her parents and siblings. She attended Barpathar Girls High School for her higher secondary education. Initially, she wanted to be a kickboxer just like her elder sisters but later chose boxing. She was scouted by a famous coach Padum Chandra Bobo in a trial held by the Sports Authority of India at her high school.

Lovlina began training at SAI STC Guwahati under Padum Charda Bodo in 2012. Subsequently, she began training under Sandhya Gurung. In 2017, she gained popularity as a boxer around the world after winning a bronze medal at the 8th edition Asian Women’s Amateur Boxing Championships in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
In 2018, Lovlina participated in Commonwealth Games in the welterweight boxing category. Unfortunately, she lost to British boxer Sandy Ryan. In the same year, she competed in the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championship, held in New Delhi, and won a bronze medal in the 69 kg category.
In 2020, Lovlina cemented her Olympic place after defeating a Uzbeki boxer Maftunakhon Melieva in the 2020Asia & Oceania Boxing Olympic Qualification Tournament. Recently, in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, she defeated a German boxer Nadine Apetz and Taiwan’s boxer in the initial rounds and secured a medal. Unfortunately, she lost the semifinal against the world no 1 boxer of Turkey Busenaz Surmeneli and won a bronze medal.
