Ja Morant was born on 10 August 1999 in Dalzell, South Caroline to Tee and Jamie Morant. He attended Crestwood High School in Sumter South Caroline. While completing he started playing basketball. Due to his exceptional performance, he became the most valuable person in his school. He started his early basketball journey by taking training with his father, who taught him to step back jump shots and other Basketball related skills.

In the beginning, he played in the Amateur Athletic Union circuit with the South Carolina Horneys a small grassroots team based in Columbia, South Carolina for 1 season alongside his teammate Zion Williamson.

He also holds the third most assists in a single game by a Murray state player. On the 1st of February, he scored a massive point of 23 against Southeast Missouri State. Afterward, he also earned his first-team All OVC and OVC all-newcomer accolades. By ranking an average of 12.7 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game. The same year he also became the 7th freshman under 25 years to accumulate 150 assists, 150 rebounds, and 10 blocks.  

In 2018, he was one of the 20 players who were invited to Chris Paul’s Elite Guard Camp. In the second season for Murray state, he recorded 26 points and 11 assists against Wright State which initially led his team to win over them with a 74-53 scoreline. On the 24th of November 2018, Morant acquired 29 points, 12 assists, and a season height of 13 rebounds which helped his team a lot to win over Missouri State. Due to his impressive performance in the match, he became the first Murray State player to record multiple triple-doubles.

Afterward in his next game, he scored a season-high point of 38, which was the 12th most single points by a player in school history. In 2019, was placed among the top 25 contenders for the John R Wooden award, and on the 10 of January 2019, he broke the school record for most assists in a single game, by scoring 26 points against UT Martin. The same year he also broke the OVC record for most consecutive free throws in a single game and became the 10 players in the history of Murray state to record 40 points.

On the 2nd of July 2019, Ja Morant was signed by the Grizzlies in a four-year contract worth of 39.6million. Later on the 23rd of 2019, he made his NBA debut by against Miami Heat where he scored 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. In the same year on the 14th of November, Ja recorded his first double with 23 points and 11 assists and hit a game-winning layup in a 117-115 victory over the Charlotte Hornets. On the 9th of February, he scored his first NBA career triple-double against Washington Wizards.
