Gautam never thought of becoming an actor. He did modeling at the initial stage of his career. Later in 2016, he made his debut with the popular Star Plus serial Naamkarann where he played the role of Ali. He got a lot of attention and popularity for his looks and acting skills. 

Subsequently, in 2012, he made his film debut with the film Flat 211, where he was seen portraying the character of Sameer. Furthermore, Gautam appeared in many Tv serials like Tantra in 2018, MTV Nishedh as Raghav in 2020, Pinjara Khubsurti Ka as Piyush Sanyal from 2020-2021, Sath Nibhana Saathiya 2 as Surya Sen in 2021, and Agni Vayu as Vayu in 2021. 

Gautam was also featured in short films like Roohdaar in 2021, and Haale Dil on Broken Notes as Ayaaz in 2021. Moreover, in 2022 he participated in the popular and most loved Colors TV reality show BiggBoss season 16. Unfortunately, on November 20, 2022, he was eliminated by the audience vote. Gautam was the first male contested to be evicted.

From February 12, 2023, Gautam will be seen in the upcoming Colors Tv musical drama Junooniyat opposite Ankit Gupta and Neha Rana.
